Picking up

Once again we had a blast at the opening of “Hey I Know That Guy” last night – huge thanks to everyone that came out in the cold, the DJs for keeping the party going, and of course all of the artists who submitted work for the show. We’ll have a full recap post this week (if you have pictures from the opening send them in!) but for now we wanted to get the dates and times out there for everyone to come pick up their work.

We will be at the gallery (321 Washington St) during these times:

Wednesday, 1/27 – 7-9pm
Saturday, 1/30 – 12-3pm

The gallery at WSAC is being repainted next weekend in preparation for the next show so we ask everyone to PLEASE make an effort to come pick their work up during the designated times. If you are unable to pick up during these times send us an email at alexwsac@gmail.com to schedule a time this week.

Thanks!

HOW DO I GET TO THE WASHINGTON STREET ART CENTER?

This is a question that will appear to me via txt no less than a dozen times today. For those of you who have not been to the Washington Street Art Center (WSAC), it is located at 321 (gasp) Washington Street, just outside of Union Square in Somerville.

If arriving by public transit – Central and Harvard Sq are both about a 15min walk to WSAC. There are several bus lines that run through Union Square, including the 85 (from Kendall), 86 (from Harvard or Sullivan), 87 (from Davis or Lechemere), and 91 (Central or Sullivan). The 86 goes right by the front of the building (get off at Parker St) but the other lines will drop you off in the middle of Union Square, a few minute walk from WSAC.

If you are driving there is lots of free parking behind the WSAC building.

Thanks!

Last night’s reception for DRAW DRAWINGS EVERY DAY was amazing! Thanks to all the artists for the great work submitted and everyone who came out in the cold for the opening. The gallery filled up pretty quickly once things got going, as you can see.

DJs B-Train, mR. id, and Blue Wizard kept the party going throughout the night – if you liked what you heard you can catch B-Train and mR. id this Tuesday at the Enormous Room in Cambridge.

Brian Butler showed up with a box full of drawings that he was selling for only a dollar! Needless to say a lot of people went home happy and Brian lightened his load for his upcoming move to Florida.

We’ve been big fans of Chelsea Dirck since we met her at last year’s show. She’s living out of state now but was able to send in some work along with a few of her zines. We also put together a 28-page zine featuring 15 of the artists in the show. We’ll have a few remaining copies for sale at the “Hey I Know That Guy” opening on the 23rd, along with a new zine for that show.

Maria Molteni‘s installation ARCHIVE made its debut last night. The piece consists of a beehive that has been fitted with plexiglass slides containing drawings. Viewers were invited to wear gloves and pull the slides out of the hive to examine them, as if they were tending to a living hive.

Here are some more pictures from the gallery, click here for a full set on flickr to see all of the installation shots.
